It takes a village. An over-used phrase? Maybe some places, but not here. Here in Bay Village we walk the talk. Granted, for most of us Bay folks, we live in the best of times. The bubble, we call it with a sheepish grin.

Two weeks ago, I attended a community book discussion at the Bay Library. The topic was social infrastructure and the book we read was Palaces for the People. In this book, the author shows the importance of “the hidden networks and taken-for-granted systems that support all variety of collective life.” During the discussion, I proudly spoke of our creative programming at BAYarts and our beautiful campus nestled near the lake. From the back of the room, a lady from Cleveland spoke up.

BAYarts came into my life on a cold snowy January day in 2014. One could say it was serendipity that brought us together but I like to think it was more than that.

Patty Flauto is currently showing work with Tina Elkins in the BAYarts Sullivan Family Gallery. The exhibition is called Intuitions, and Flauto's has works in charcoal as well as in acrylic paint.

In this interview, you will hear from Flauto as she talks about letting "impressions overshadow reality" to create her beautifully evocative pieces.

Inside this exclusive BAYarts interview, Tina Elkins (now showing work with Patty Flauto in the Sullivan Family Gallery for Intuitions) shares why she includes both myths and science into her works of art, gives detailed insight into her encaustic art creation and explains how holding piece of a melting Icelandic glacier inspired her artwork.

This current exhibition has been extremely well-received, and we know you wanted a deeper look into the inspirations behind these pieces. We also wanted to let you get familiar with what encaustic is all about, and there's no better person than Elkins to speak on that.

When it comes time to do holiday shopping, our staff starts right in the BAYarts holiday shop. Below, read a sampling of some of their most loved items. We hope this gives you some suggestions for your upcoming holiday shopping trips on the Westshore of Cleveland.

BAYarts has partnered with The Gathering Place for the gallery exhibition Seasons of Gratitude. It is located in the Sullivan Family Gallery of The Fuller House and is on display from November 17 through December 22, 2018.
